The Zanskar:
Winter-locked up to ten months a year, the villages in the Zanskar are wild and remote. During the depth of winter for about one month the Zanskar river freezes and becomes a passage for travel for locals heading to Leh for supplies. In January 2007 we spent 25 days walking in, on, and around the frozen Zanskar river, exploring 2000 year old monasteries and villages and sleeping on the banks in with temperatures dropping to often 20º F. |
